Women’s tank tops are stretched over polystyrene panels and painted with horizontal stripes. In this series, the artist explores subjects of great personal interest, such as the relationship between elite and popular taste. The stripes are used irreverently to reference art history—for example, Picasso’s nautical striped shirt; Jasper Johns, through the painting Two Dutch, which refers to his work The Dutch Wives; and the horizontal stripe paintings of Daniel Buren and Michel Parmentier.
