Artist statement:

This exhibition reflects my recent work, where the color yellow emerged as a central theme. I started painting yellow monochromes appropriating the corporate color from the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment in the Netherlands, where I currently live and work. Post - COVID 19 pandemic, as museums reopened, I returned to the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, drawn to Kazimir Malevich’s paintings. I think that is something Cuban artists do, we look for Malevich in search of answers.
Malevich’s Yellow Plane in Dissolution resonated deeply. A yellow form that dissolves dramatically, as if marking an ending. This inspired a series of studies and sketches, not as irreverence but as a respectful dialogue with Malevich’s legacy. These works evolved into my own Plane in Dissolution. A repetitive act seeking healing, layers of color infused with my personal life, and a search for something to believe in, intertwined with a deep desire to be well.
