Declaration Letters is a series of oil paintings on canvas inspired by the design of official correspondence the artist receives from the Dutch Ministry of Justice and the Tax and Customs Administration. In the Netherlands, tax documents arrive in envelopes of a distinctive and instantly recognizable colour. Known as the blauwe envelop (“blue envelope”), they contain official notices, legal documents, and tax declarations, all presented according to a carefully structured graphic design.

The artist’s attempts to understand these documents led her to reflect on the complexity of her own process of integration into Dutch society. In this series of abstract paintings, she freely interprets and transforms the visual language of Dutch governmental correspondence from a deeply personal perspective.
